Final Class Assessments will take place in the week or months following the last day of training according to the Teacher Training course.

Hello Yoga Students,

Due to Covid 19 and the Lockdown, all plans for a 200 Hour Teacher Training course were placed on hold. Moving forward, it would be wonderful if 10 students were interested and we could train safely together in a good venue.

This course can take place either on one weekend a month over 12 months plus one month for assessments

or over one month on location with 20 hours of coursework being completed online and in private time, outside the 180 hours of practical training time.

The Fire Angel Yoga Teacher Training Course is a training in Classical Hatha Yoga with it’s primary focus and inspiration being the Classical Treatise: ‘The Yoga Sutras’of Patanjali, and The 8 limbed Path of Ashtanga Yoga, namely:

‘Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana , Dhyana, Samadhi’

This text will form the foundation and ‘structure’ of the Teacher Training course and will inform the ‘spirit’ of the training course.

The 200 Hour Fire Angel Yoga Teacher Training course will be divided into the following categories:

  • Training Days will be begin at 8am and finish at 6pm.
  • Each training day consists of 7.5 hours training hours.
  • There will be a morning break at 9am (1/2 hour)
  • Lunch break at 12pm to 1pm, (1 hour)
  • Afternoon break at 3pm to 4pm (1 hour)

Training Days

Mornings

Practice and Training, Teaching Practice, Teaching Methodology.

Afternoons

Relaxation and Pranayama, Teaching Practice, History and Philosophy, Creative Project, Business Module and supplementary yoga related subjects.

Each trainee will teach the following, as part of the Teaching Practice portion of the training course: (6 hours total).

  • 4 x ¼ hour Mantra Yoga practices comprising 4 Classical Chants.
  • 1 x ¼ hour Asana practice
  • 2 x ½ hour Asana practice
  • 2 x 1 hour Asana practice
  • 1 x ½ hour Relaxation practice
  • 1 x ½ hour Pranayama practice
  • 1 x ½ hour Meditation practice
  • 1 x ¼ hour Philosophy & History presentation

The Final Class Assessments of two 1½ hour classes will be take place in the week or months following the last day or month of training according to the Teacher Training course.

One final Class Assessment will take place in the presence of a Senior Teacher and one other qualified experienced Yoga teacher of at least 5 years teaching experience.

The Final Class Assessments will require a minimum of 6 yoga students present in the class.

The Teacher Training course is designed for a total of 10 trainees or less.

If there should be less than 10 trainees on a course, extra teaching practices will be assigned to trainees and supplementary sessions will be taught by a Senior Teacher or an external expert.

Trainees will learn through observation, listening, chanting, yoga practice, group work, pair work, creative imagining and writing, studying and reading, solitary & silent contemplation, keeping a journal, creative project work, written assignments, movies.

Trainees will be required to do at least 20 hours of Coursework, (one hour of Coursework, per module, for 20 modules of the course), to be completed outside the contact hours of the training ie Non Contact hours.

The Coursework will consist of the following elements:

  • To complete a revision questionnaire related to each module.
  • To keep a journal of personal practice.
  • Spend time on the creative project of choice.
  • Lesson Planning
  • Essay writing & Study

Trainees will receive a Trainee Manual containing all Policy documents, the syllabus, module schedules and content relating to the syllabus, coursework requirements and a schedule related to individual Teaching Practices.

Syllabus

The course will cover the following subjects:

  • Mantra yoga ( sacred chants)
  • Kriya yoga and the Shat Karmas ( cleansing practices)
  • Asanas ( physical postures/ poses)
  • Bandhas ( psycho- physiological locks), Mudras ( symbolic body positions and hand gestures)
  • Pranayama – breath control, practicing various techniques.
  • Yogic energy centres (the Chakras) and pathways (Nadis), granthis (psychic knots),the Koshas.
  • Pratyahara – ( sense withdrawal)
  • Concentration and meditation practices, Dharana , Dyhana
  • Yoga Nidra and the art of relaxation
  • Nutrition – the Yogic diet and related subjects
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • History and Philosophy : Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika, The Upanishads.
  • Symbols and Yantra.
  • The different paths of Yoga eg Karma Yoga , Bhakti Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Gnana Yoga, Raja Yoga, Hatha Yoga
  • Safeguarding and protection of children and vulnerable adults
  • Different yoga classes from different traditions, styles, history of yoga eg Sivandanda Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Asthanga Vinyasa Yoga, Yin Yoga, Scaravelli Inspired Yoga.
  • The’ business of yoga’. Setting up a yoga class, a yoga studio, working for an organization, being self-employed.
  • Class, course & event planning
  • Teaching Methodology including: class management, lesson planning , adjustments, modifications, demonstration, correction.
  • Creative project of choice
  • Personal practice and Journal keeping
  • Revision and course work covering all subjects covered in training modules
  • Ayurveda and Yoga

Course Objectives

  • Trainees will be able to teach safely and effectively, two 1½ hour yoga classes to a group of at least 6 students to the highest standards, based on The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali of Classical Hatha Yoga.
  • Trainees will have an in depth knowledge and understanding of the 8 limbs of the 8 limbed path of Ashtanga Yoga, outlined in The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
  • Trainees will become knowledgeable and experienced in different styles of yoga.
  • Trainees will understand the importance of the Shat Karmas (cleansing practices and be able to teach at least one practice).
  • Trainees will understand the principles of Mantra Yoga and be able to lead 4 classical mantras.
  • Trainees will learn to teach asanas safely, and understand the sequence of : ‘warm up, peak pose, winding down, counterpose and relaxation.’
  • Trainees will have a good knowledge and understanding of the ‘Principle poses’ taught on this teacher training course and be able to teach the ‘Principle poses’ effectively, safely and to a high standard, using the Sanskrit terms.
  • Trainees will have a good basic knowledge of the Sanskrit terms used in teaching all 8 limbs of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the asanas taught in the Principle Poses.
  • Trainees will have a good knowledge of the various teaching skills and teaching methodology required when teaching a yoga class, such as: class management, modifications, adjustments, precautions and prohibitions, demonstration, correction, verbal instruction, use of teaching aids, use of props.
  • Trainees will understand thoroughly the ‘safeguarding guidelines’ for teaching vulnerable individuals such as children, young adults, pregnant women, the elderly and those with medical conditions.
  • Trainees will experience yoga classes taught by teachers from different yoga schools, for example, Sivananda Yoga, Yin Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Scaravelli inspired Yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga etc giving them a broader understanding of the evolution and expansion of Yoga into our present times.
  • Trainees will have a thorough and good understanding of Anatomy and Physiology and be able to apply this knowledge to their teaching.
  • Trainees will have a good understanding of Pranayama and the Pranamaya Kosha (subtle body), its benefits and how to apply this knowledge in their teaching.
  • Trainees will be able to teach a guided Pranayama session.
  • Trainees will understand the benefits of Deep Relaxation and Yoga Nidra and be able to teach a guided session.
  • Trainees will understand the mechanics of breathing and the major systems of the body.
  • Trainees will become knowledgeable about the History and Philosophy of yoga through the study of some key texts eg The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, The Bhagavad Gita, The Hatha Yoga Pradipika, The Upanishads, They will be able to apply this knowledge to their teaching and be able to make a short presentation on the subject of their interest.
  • Trainees will gain knowledge and experience in various different practices and techniques of concentration and meditation. Trainees will be able to teach on the Ashtanga ‘limbs’of Dharana (concentration) and Dhyana (meditation).
  • Trainees will use their creative skills and imagination in a Creative Project of their choice and share this with the training group.
  • Trainees will learn and understand the value of a daily practice and the attendance of a weekly yoga class and record this experience in a daily journal gaining deeper insight.
  • Trainees will gain a good understanding of the ‘business of yoga’ and its different areas such as marketing, tax, customer service etc and be able to apply this knowledge to creating their own yoga businesses.
  • Trainees will gain knowledge in subjects related to the subject of Yoga, for example: Yantras, Nutrition and the Yogic Diet and Fasting.
  • Trainees will gain further understanding and knowledge of the subject of Yoga and the teaching of Yoga through the completion of coursework, to be completed outside the ‘contact hours’ of the course.

Prerequisites

Trainees are required to have a minimum of 3 years strong yoga practice and preferably 5 years practice before they can be accepted onto the Fire Angel 200 Hour Teacher Training Course. It is also helpful for Trainees to have a basic understanding of the philosophy of yoga in general and the style of yoga they personally would like to pursue. The 200 hour course is a foundation course so any prior knowledge and experience will be taken into consideration on application to the course.

Successful applicants should be in good health. If there are any significant medical conditions to be considered, the Trainee needs a letter from their GP authorizing the Trainee to participate in the Teacher Training Course.

Trainees must hold a valid First Aid Certificate prior to the start of the course.

Trainees must have Public Liability Insurance cover. This will be supplied by Yoga Alliance on acceptance to the Fire Angel 200 hour Teacher Training course.

Evaluation Procedure & Grading Criteria

  • Presentations
  • Revision Questionnaires relating to each of the 24 Modules of the course.
  • Worksheets based on the entire content of the course eg Ethics , Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dyhana, Teaching Methodology, Anatomy & Physiology, History & Philosophy
  • Essays
  • Recorded Teaching Assessments – Trainee will be assessed on teaching a led class including adjustments.
  • Grading will be based on the following grades, per piece of evaluated work and each recorded teaching practice and Final Class Assessment.
  • Grades: Poor, Good, Very Good, Excellent.

Course Schedules

The Course consists of:

24 tuition days consisting of 24 modules, over 12 weekends with the Final Class Assessment taking place in the 13th month.

20 hours of coursework will be completed during the training course.

Certificate provided for successful Trainees

Attendance

Trainees should attend at minimum of 90% of the course. Should Trainees miss more than the minimum, they will need to agree with the Senior teacher on which modules to re-take. The school reserves the right to charge additional fees for these catch up modules.

Accreditation

This training school has met the stringent requirements set by Yoga Alliance Professionals, demonstrating that the course is of the highest standard. Our graduates are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance Professionals and use their accreditation as a sign of quality training.
